AHBL Blocking Of TOR
Nodes It has been brought to our attention that recently, the TOR system is being used to cause serious abuse on IRC. As such, to better assist admins that wish to block the TOR nodes from their servers/network, we have created the TOR DNSbl. More information on the TOR list can be found here. AHBL TOR List FAQ Q: Do you object to the use of TOR or want to see it shut down? A: No. Not at all. We just want to make sure we can provide admins with the tools they need in order to block both incoming and exiting TOR nodes should they desire. Q: On the TOR Wiki, it has a section about overzealous Blacklist Operators. Is that you? A: Probably are talking about us, considering we refused to delist the entrance and transit nodes from the TORbl. The TORbl is used by both people wanting to block access from TOR nodes, but also block access TO tor nodes. Please note that we do NOT recommend people use the TOR list to block e-mail. If you do, you do it at your own risk. Q: Why are you recommending that the TORbl be used on IRC servers? I want to IRC anonymously! A: We recommend people block TOR nodes for IRC because they are being seriously abused and used for drone floods, harassment, etc, with no ability for us to track down the abuser. If you want to IRC anonymously, either go find a network which welcomes TOR nodes, or get a shell account somewhere with a BNC. Q: Someone IS using your TORbl list to block e-mail on their server. I need to e-mail someone there. I demand that you remove my IP now (or I am going to sue/cart00ney)! A: Go bother the admin of the server who is using the TORbl to block e-mail, not us. If you are the admin of the TOR node being blocked, you may want to run TOR on a different IP address then your mail server, since TOR is bound to attract alot of abuse over time and cause your more mission critical services to suffer. |
